Downward Short-Wave Radiation

Downward short-wave radiation is energy from the sun. Wavelengths may be in the visible, near-ultraviolet, and near-infrared spectra.

Upward Short-Wave Radiation

Upward short-wave radiation is energy in the visible, near-ultraviolet, or near-infrared spectra emitted by the planet.

Downward Long-Wave Radiation

Downward long-wave radiation is infrared (heat) energy sent towards the planet from clouds, the atmosphere (greenhouse gasses), or other terrestrial sources.

Upward Long-Wave Radiation

Upward long wave radiation is outgoing infrared (heat) energy emitted by the planet.
